Navarra leads Spain in doctor-to-population ratio and medical feminization

26 de November de 2025

Navarra ranks among the Spanish regions
with the highest number of doctors per capita and one of the strongest rates of
medical feminization. The 2025 Medical Demographics Report shows that the
region has 642 physicians per 100,000 inhabitants, and 63% of them are women.

Navarra stands out in the latest 2025
Medical Demographics Report, published by the Spanish Medical Association, as
one of the regions with the highest availability of medical professionals.
With 642 active doctors per 100,000 residents, Navarra surpasses the
national average of 568, placing the region at the forefront of Spain’s
healthcare landscape.

A notable highlight of the study is the high
feminization of the medical workforce
. Women account for nearly 60% of
Navarra’s medical staff
, making it one of the regions with the largest
female presence in the healthcare sector and a benchmark for gender equality in
medicine.

The report also forecasts a positive
replacement rate (1.07)
, suggesting that Navarra will incorporate more
specialists than those retiring in the coming years. However, the study points
out a major challenge: medical talent is leaving Navarra at a higher rate
than it arrives
, which could jeopardize long-term stability. To maintain
leadership, the region must implement strong strategies to attract and retain
healthcare professionals.
