Navarra launches a new Circular Economy Chair to develop talent and transform industry

12 de August de 2026

The
Government of Navarra, through the public environmental company Orekan, and the
Public University of Navarra (UPNA) have joined forces to create the new ‘Circular
Economy and Sustainability’ Chair
, designed to turn scientific knowledge
into practical solutions for businesses and public administrations.

Its work
will focus on three strategic areas: ecodesign, industrial symbiosis and
product life-cycle assessment
. New methodologies, tools and pilot projects
will help organisations improve resource efficiency, reduce waste and integrate
environmental criteria into their decision-making processes.

Talent
development will be another major pillar of the initiative. The Chair will
provide specialised training for students, academics and companies while
promoting seminars, postgraduate activities, R&D&I projects and student
placements in companies connected to the Navarra Zirkular initiative
. New
microcredentials in circular economy are also planned.

A strong
connection between education and real business needs will allow Bachelor’s and
Master’s students to work on challenges proposed by companies and public
organisations. Projects may explore areas including waste and by-product
recovery, environmental taxation, circular public procurement, digitalisation
and environmental assessment.

University
students will also participate in hackathons and innovation challenges designed
around real sustainability issues, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration,
creativity and the development of new circular business models.
By
combining education, research and industry, Navarra is not only accelerating
its transition towards a circular economy — it is also developing the
professionals who will lead it. For international talent interested in
sustainability, engineering, innovation and green industry, Navarra offers an
ecosystem where knowledge can become real-world impact.
