Acciona has announced that it will host a green hydrogen plant in Sangüesa (Navarra), a fuel that produces no emissions and is capable of powering cars, heating homes and activating factories. The decision to start up this plant (it will be Acciona’s second green hydrogen facility in Spain, after the one it already operates in Mallorca) comes within the framework of the alliance it sealed with the US company Plug Power two years ago to develop green hydrogen in Spain and Portugal, and which promised to spend 2 billion euros to achieve a 20% market share by 2030.
The plant will be installed in Sangüesa, where Acciona has a biomass plant that was promoted by EHN. Biomass is precisely one of the ways being studied to obtain hydrogen. The availability of renewable energy in the area thanks to the nearby wind farm was another reason Acciona chose this location, as well as the logistical access and ease of obtaining permits. Of course, this decision represents a firm step by Navarra in its race towards the production of green hydrogen.
